A thermal transfer printer, also known as a film printer, is often used to print information directly onto the packaging film. Thermal transfer printers can also be used to print onto labels. Using the heated printer head, the ink from the print ribbon is burned onto the film at a speed of up to 400 items per minute. The printer prints information such as dates, times, batch numbers, logos and barcodes with a resolution of 300 dpi.
